When designing Elite Salon Studios (Atlanta, GA), we knew the importance of color, which is why we included a color bar complete with elegant color storage and display along with a stainless steel sink and counter top. But why stop there?
What is more important than a colorist having the ability to see color in the hair accurately? When it has to be done correctly, nothing. So we sought out custom lighting that was designed specifically to do just that – to see color accurately in the hair. Not only is this lighting beautiful hanging in our high ceilings, but its functionality is yet one more reason that Elite is…well, elite.
“If you hold out your hand under ordinary office lighting and then hold your other hand about a foot over that hand, you’ll see a shadow on that first hand.” explains Tom Linder, owner of Elite Salon Studios. “Stylists don’t need shadows. You can’t distinguish color in the hair accurately in the shadows, so we brought in consultants from the lighting industry. Our architect also had experience with lighting. The light, in addition to going down also goes up and sideways and we dropped the lighting down about 2 ft from the ceiling and then painted the ceiling white so that it would reflect the light so that now you are getting light from all directions. It’s going up, bouncing off the ceilings, onto the walls and back down onto the hair as well as coming straight down from the light fixture onto the hair and because the light is coming from all directions, you don’t have a shadow.”
Come take the tour. Not all hair salon studios are created equally.
