When we think about amenities, we often thing about the obvious ones such as the individual ac units in each suite or the custom color bar. But sometimes the smaller things can really mean a lot for practical purposes. As a part of our Stylist’s Desk, we added a key lock to the drawer for our stylists to store valuables. It is a great place to keep cash, checks, wallets and anything else that you’ll feel safer under lock and key.
In 2014, social media is standard
We make our personal New Year resolutions right around January 1st, often declaring them on New Year’s Eve. If you’re a small business, however, you are constantly adjusting to your market and making changes that only small businesses have the flexibility to do. It’s never a bad time to keep up with the trends of marketing to see how your salon can benefit. We looked to Yahoo’s Small Business Advisor for an interesting list of marketing trends for 2014 (see our caption snapshot).
A trend that has been growing for the past few years is the combination of how you use your website with your social media outlets and what outlets suit your business model. Yahoo sites that:
- 52% of marketers have found a customer via Facebook in this year.
Often, as the wearer of many small hats, we small business owners have a hard time with completing all the tasks we have before us. For stylists in salon studios, realizing that “word of mouth” now fully encompasses the internet and social media and that not using them fully might be costing you clients. Seems obvious because so many of us have personal Facebook accounts. Many salons, however, have not come around to using Facebook for their business.
Let’s start with Facebook (and Instagram)
So what social media outlets would benefit a hair stylist? Ultimately, it comes down to the social media that you will actually keep up with. Just filling out a profile and then not working the outlet does you no good. So we suggest starting with a business Facebook page for your salon and using that outlet to keep clients engaged. Instagram is owned by Facebook and will post to the Facebook wall, so it is always fun to take Instagram’s of you and your happy clients to let other potential clients see what an awesome person you are as well as allowing them to see your work!
Showcase contests on your FB page and encourage people to share your page to be included in the contest. Offer referrals via FB. Some people use a ratio to determine how often to mention their business on their personal FB account. We suggest taking your own temperature when it comes to that decision. Your friends can be your best referrals, but you don’t want to over do it. Always find a way to get your clients to your FB page. Tell them you are going to post that classy picture that you took with them and to look for it! With Instagram on your phone, you can take the picture, throw a creative filter on it and have it on Facebook within minutes!
Get creative, have fun and you will reap the benefits of Facebook and other social media outlets.
Partnering in a salon studio environment
If you and a partner have been thinking about breaking out on your own, then our Double is a great place to start for a few reasons.
- Greatest Value
- Ability to work at the same time with two styling chairs
- Ability to have clients in styling chairs while another in processing chair creating greater income.
Once you make the decision to move past booth rental to a salon studio, you then need to decide on what your needs are for your new salon. If you are going to start a salon with a partner, are you going to be working together or are you going to share time and work at different times? The good news is that we can accommodate your needs for both scenarios.
Two stylists working together = “The Double”
The Double has two industrial grade styling chairs with hydraulic lifts to adjust your client to the perfect position. As with anything we do with Elite, our equipment is a representation of the luxury clientele that our stylists serve.
For many stylists, owning their own salon means taking control of their own environment, selling their own products and keeping more of what they earn. A salon studio is the logical next step. The boutique environment of a salon studio makes it perfect for the single stylist that has built a core following and wants to serve his/her clientele in a more private, one-on-one environment.
Other stylists enjoy working with others and yet still want to own their own salon. Our Double is perfect for this scenario because it allows for two people to work together and own their own salon! This allows two stylists to break out on their own and keep their costs down in the process.
The Double is the biggest bang for your salon dollar
You will save more money with a double when you have a partner. Two stylists. Two styling stations with hydraulic lift chairs. Lower costs to stylists. This is the perfect way to start a salon. We have seen two partners grow from one single, move into a double, add another double and then break into multiple singles. This is the beauty of how you can grow with Elite Salon Studios.
Are you ready for the cool weather? Elite is, because each of our salons has its own temperature control. When we built Elite, we decided to put 2 separate units into each salon. One controls the actual temperature while the other recycles the air flow making sure that fresh air is constantly coming into the salon. This is especially welcome for stylists that use procedures where the smell of product can build within the room.
In a larger salon, this would not be as much of a problem. In a salon studio, it can be a big issue. We took care of that by giving each stylist complete control over the temperature of their environment. There is no reason why you should not be able to set the temperature of your own salon as well as being receptive to your clients and their needs.
Every salon studio owner needs to display retail products.
We make it a pleasure for you to do so with our display unit that captivates your clients as soon as they walk through the door. This is one of many amenities that we have included at Elite to assure that your salon is ready to welcome a luxury clientele in the city of Atlanta and the surrounding Sandy Springs, Dunwoody and Roswell areas.
When you book a tour with Charles Anderson, he will not only tell you about the benefits of our retail display unit but also about many more amenities that will separate you from your competition. From the ability to control your own temperature to having a wash chair with remote controlled massage , we welcome the opportunity to show you the Elite difference.
A Color Bar in a Salon Studio?
We knew we wanted to make Elite special, so we consulted with multiple hair stylists in the Atlanta area. Our goal was to build a boutique suite that would feature amenities that stylists were already use to when they worked in the larger, busier salon setting. So we made sure to build suites that were spacious enough to allow for amenities such as a European wash bowl so the stylists could actually stand behind the clients while washing hair. And we kept hearing about the need for a color bar. Where would stylists mix color if we did not include one? Done.
Elite’s decision to make amenities count.
Creating our salon studios meant that the amenities would really have to mean something. Why include something if it did not live up to our expectations of what a luxury client would expect? Our color bar would be something that the client would admire as soon as they walked through the door. It would include stainless steel that would extend beyond the sink onto the counter tops to create an upscale, polished look. Our colorists could now mix their colors without having to worry about a mess. This color bar has a surface space that gives the stylist room to work without feeling cramped.
Details matter. Come visit us at Elite. We have many more of these types of stories.
The new salon studios at Elite will fill up. After that, there are absolutely no immediate plans to build more. We have now fulfilled our original plan of the two additional wings and they look as good as we imagined them.
We strongly encourage any aspiring hair stylists in the Atlanta, Sandy Springs and Dunwoody areas to visit Elite before you make the jump to booth rental. The salon studio concept is the future of booth rental. For many Atlanta hair stylists, it is the NOW. Come by and visit. Ask for Charles. He will be more than happy to show you around and tell you about the clear difference that Elite Salon Studios makes for hair stylists that are ready to take control of their professional career.
What is your salon suite number going to be?
If you are a hair stylist in the north Atlanta, Sandy Springs or Dunwoody area, we invite you to come see our salon suites before they are all rented. Our new wing is almost complete and we are giving tours. Call Charles and he will be happy to show you around.
Our amenity package is unmatched. Come visit and you’ll see why booth rental is no longer an option if you want to start branding yourself as a top Atlanta hair stylist.
Details matter. Small details. Large details. Sometimes you have so much to look at that you forget exactly what is in front of you. At Elite Salon Studios, it is easy to be overwhelmed with the details that owner, Tom Linder, insisted on when he was designing Elite.
He envisioned an environment where Atlanta hair stylists could have options well beyond a small room and a washbowl crammed in a corner. Yes, the sinks in the restrooms are a luxury that he enjoys providing for your clientele, but what he really enjoys is when stylists start to put the whole package together. When they realize that they are in control of the temperature of their salon and when they look around to see the detail that he put into each room…the ample storage space in and outside of the salon, the color bar with a separate, beautiful stainless steel sink to the stylist desk with key locked drawer…the styling chair with electric lift… the standard option of color processor, a steamer or a dryer…! We could go on.
Atlanta hair stylists…come tour Elite, bring a pen a paper and write down everything that is offered to you and then compare this to other salon studios. We are located in one of the busiest, most energetic areas in North Atlanta.
